Chef Glenn stands ready to open the doors to their magical winter world with Christmas tables.

I'm looking out. It's raining and the trees and branches that have been standing there all week have been swaying. Typical! I am going to sea ... Well, with a couple of Calma chewing gum in the bag, we hope it will solve!

This time - after two short Northern European trips recently to Southampton - it is time to bounce around the Åland Sea. I'll test Birka Cruises version 2019 of Winter Taste - their magical concept of Christmas time!

With me, I not only have my husband or my own family this time. When Seafun tests, we do it properly. Or how about 24 testers of scattered ages who all think themselves tonight at the Christmas table and in front of the Christmas show (which this year is a Christmas circus) ?! 😀

Winter taste in 2019

The start shot went on Wednesday, but I wanted to let the kitchen heat up properly and get fit first. Have you seen the wonderful commercial? So good and fun!

Of course, I have also heard a little about this year's version, what lies behind and what we can expect. This year, they have invested in sago mysticism. Instead of a fir tree, we have to go through a light allure this time. The aforementioned magical winter-white light sparkle will remain but with a few other accessories this year.

For example, in the circular party of the Sjöalen, a fairy tree with mysterious objects in the branch works. What are they trying to say? How did they end up there? Did the Santa perhaps drop them from their sled on the sky? Maybe you want to sit down on the park bench and think for a while…

Meanwhile, Glenn bases in the kitchen and makes sure his chef team is well-trained, that the arm movements are where they are going. This year they roll all the meatballs themselves, and it will be some until Christmas…! In fact, they calculate the whole 250 000. The Christmas table teaches digna like previous years and I look forward to finding past favorites as well as maybe someone new.

A Christmas circus without its like!

I let out a sigh of relief when I confirmed that the candy room is still there too - with 13 children on the trip I would have otherwise been the most unpopular of the year if I sold something that did not exist then, hahaha! Now it might be the opposite, hehehe ... 😉

Addictive; no Christmas but a visit to Birka's candy room (here from 2018). Photo: Heidi Rovén.

As a nice ending, we settle down in Backstage and let the food sink while we are entertained by the new Christmas show. I've been told that this year it consists of two parts; a humorous and a more "serious" or maybe one should say traditional. Christmas Circus is the name and as you Birka fans can immediately imagine, so some of the fun from the Christmas buffet this year has moved in to the show and arranges Christmas circus.

It will be a busy day, and only those November winds will keep things calm. Keep your thumbs up and look out, of course I'll be back as soon as I can and tell you everything about the cruise.

If you are curious about what previous Christmas table cruises with Birka looked like, you can click in here for 2014, here for 2016, here for 2017 and here for 2018. Christmas time 2015 there was no room for Christmas food in the stomach because then I would just give birth to children, hence "lost"! 😉
